Obituary for George "Red" Donald Carmichael

George "Red" Donald Carmichael
George Donald (Red) Carmichael 1917-2016

Passed away peacefully in his 100th year with his family at his side at Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Honor Carmichael for 73 years. Loving father of Gordon (Judy), Don (Janice) and Ted (Kim). Proud grandfather of Amy, Will, Jackie, Kevin, Robbie, Lauren, Harry, Priscilla and Andrew and great-grandfather of Frida and Agnes.

Red had a wonderful life, growing up in Toronto as a competitive swimmer, serving his country as an RCAF pilot, marrying his wartime sweetheart, building a career as a car dealer and a general foreman at Livingston’s, bringing up his three boys in Tillsonburg with many memorable road trips and summer holidays spent at the family cottage in Muskoka. After their careers ended, Red and Honor travelled widely to visit friends and see wonderful sights. They fiercely held on to their independence, living in their own home throughout their retirement years.

The family would like to thank caregivers, Jackie Lecuyer and the staff at Stonebridge Services for all their help. A celebration of life will take place at Ostrander’s Funeral Home 43 Bidwell St. Tillsonburg, on Sunday, October 16th at 2:00 pm followed by a reception at the Hickory Hills Community Centre which is located at 48 Wilson Ave. Tillsonburg in the community of Hickory Hills.
