Junior Atkins 1931-2016
Peacefully, on Sunday, December 18, 2016, surrounded by his family at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, Junior Atkins of Tillsonburg and formerly of Houghton, passed away at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of the late Dixie Lee Grant (2009). Loving father of Cherri Lee Atkins of Nova Scotia and Jaye Atkins (Karen) of Delhi.
Also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole and Celine Atkins, Benjamin Wice, Cameron Cyr (Karla), Cara Driedger (Willy), Darby Livingstone (Ben) and great grandchildren Selena and Jordan Livingstone, Theo Cyr, Jasmine, Sierra and Alvro Driedger. Predeceased by brothers and sisters Ethel, Ralph, Albert, Glen, Robert & Bill Atkins. Junior started his education at Tillsonburg District Secondary School, where he graduated in 1948. He then went on to Tillsonburg Business College and received his diploma in 1949. Junior has been involved in many companies over the years including, Atkins Farms, Atkins Holdings LTD., Atkins Limousine Service & Atkins Coach Lines. When he wasn’t busy running his companies, he was busy being a board member. Junior was elected onto the Norfolk County Board of education from 1969-1997 where he was the chairman of the property committee, finance committee, policy committee, personnel committee, planning committee and the management and operations committee. He was also an elected member of the I.S.O.C from 1967-1968 and an elected member of the Houghton Board of Education from 1962-1967. Junior was a previous member of the Church Board, Port Burwell Legion, Lodges and the Commitment for Ontario Flue Cured Tobacco Growers Marketing Board. A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Memorial donations in Junior’s memory to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
