Barend “Bob” Johannas Van Deelen

The family wishes to announce the sudden passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, Barend “Bob” Johannas Van Deelen of Tillsonburg, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, August 17, 2020 at the age of 72 years. Loving and supportive husband to Jannette “Jane”. Proud father of Leesa (Jorge) Montero; Lynni Van Deelen. Dad to Daniel (Emily) Price, David (Kayla) Price. Grandfather to Teagan and Austin. Brother to Irma (Andy) Krajewski and Patty Treffers. Survived by Father-in-Law John Horley and 2 sister-in-laws, Nancy (Gary) Winkworth, and Dena (David) Taal. Uncle to several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents John (1998) and Johanna (2009) (nee Van Beek) Van Deelen, his mother-in-law Peg Horley (2006), and several uncles. Bob was born in the Netherlands and came to Canada at a young age. His post secondary education allowed Bob to return to the Netherlands and attend the University of Delft to be educated in Weld Engineering. Bob’s passion for his education excelled him in his learning and he became a young entrepreneur with his father as a Co-Owner of Specialized Welding. Their attention to detail did not go unnoticed and Bob and his father were awarded the opportunity to become the first company to weld the 1st Canada Arm on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1981, which was the beginning of many prestigious opportunities worldwide. Specialized Welding was awarded contracts with the Canadian Military, the Canadian Aerospace Programs, NASA, and multiple others. Bob also helped head up the Hibernia Project in Newfoundland. Bob wrote articles that were published numerous times with the Canadian Welding Bureau. His list of credentials as a welder is unprecedented. Bob specialized in Stainless Steel Welds and was able to participate in finalizing creations of art throughout Toronto. Bob spoke at numerous seminars in his field. He was a true icon in his field. Bobs life took him all over the world for his profession and his integrity. He was highly regarded in his pursuit of excellence. Bob’s love of animals was very obvious throughout his life. He loved his Beach Life and the opportunity to fish as often as he could. Cremation has taken place and service is to be determined at a later date.
