Obituary for Brian Wayne Chanyi

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Wayne Chanyi of Tillsonburg at the age of 70 years, after a long battle with COPD. He will be forever missed by his loving partner, Wendy Lauwerier, son Steven Chanyi (Jen) of Portland, Oregon, stepchildren Crystal Lauwerier-Wright (Brian) of Waterford, Mark Lauwerier (Stacy) of Langton, Brandi Lauwerier-Le Blanc (Kevin) of Smithville. Beloved and cherished Papa to Davyn, Mack, Hazelle, Abby, Mya and Blake. Survived by sisters Linda Chanyi of Dorchester, Marylee Chanyi of Kingston and Karen Parsons (Paul) of Courtland. Predeceased by sister Diane (1995) and his parents Sam (1987) and Pauline (2017). Brian spent many years working in industry as a millwright and industrial mechanic before he opened his own welding and fabricating business in 1995. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours cutting wood and fishing in the inner bay of Long Point. Brian was known for his loyalty to friends, great sense of humour, practical jokes, “slight addiction” to social media, and love of french fries! He could frequently be seen travelling the walking trails and streets of Tillsonburg on his red scooter, often with his buddy Mike.

At Brian’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at the Tillsonburg Cemetery on Friday, November 4, 2022, with Rev. Karlene Brown Palmer officiating. A public Celebration of Life will be held later that day at the Carriage Hall [25 Brock Street W] in Tillsonburg from 1 – 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Lung Association, Long Point Regional Conservation Authority [Memorial Forest], or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family and may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221).
