Obituary for C. Mary Salmon (Hanley)
C. Mary Salmon (née Hanley), age 89, passed away on April 16th, 2021 at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Born in Castleford (Yorkshire), England, the 11th of May 1931, Mary demonstrated an eagerness for adventure early-on and embarked on a world tour that would eventually lead her to Canada where she met her husband Albert (deceased in 1972) and started a family.
After a long teaching career in Montreal, she relocated to Tillsonburg as a means to get closer to her grandchildren. Characterised by her dry wit, Mary was independent, organized, decisive and determined, completing her Masters Degree while raising her kids as a single mother and learning to swim well into her seventies. She pursued interests such as traveling, knitting, sewing and had a love of reading that became more prevalent in later years.
Left to honor Mary and remember her love are her five children: David (Suzanne), Anne-Marie (Alain), Mark, Ian (Lynn) and Andrew (Mirjam); two grand-children: Cassandra & Michael, nieces and nephews as well as a circle of close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, her parents and her sister Joan. Mary will be remembered as a bright, shining light by her family, friends and church community.

Funeral services will be held at a date to be determined in Tillsonburg and Montreal, where burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made in Mary’s name to the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg or the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.
