Carsten Gerhard Andreas Schernekau, born February 24, 1930 in Hamburg, Germany. Passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Much loved husband and dear friend of Miriam Schernekau. Predeceased by his first wife Margaret Schernekau (1994) son Carson Schernekau (1980). Loving and devoted father of Randy (Heidi) and Nicolette. Loved step-father of Nicholas (Dawn) van Bommel and Helene van Bommel. Loving Opa to Candace, Jessica, Kristina, Leanna, Dallas, Kody, Connor and Mea and great-Opa to Maggie, Joey and Murphy. Predeceased by his parents Karl and Wanda Schernekau, his sister Ingeborge Gesek and brother-in-law Clement Gesek. Survived by his niece Heidemarie Dreger. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 51 Venison Street West, Tillsonburg on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am with Father Seejo John officiating. Cremation will follow the Mass. Inurnment in King City Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations to Habitat for Humanity, Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul, Tillsonburg would be appreciated by the Schernekau family.
