Obituary for Charles John Richard "Dick" Burnett

JUNE 03, 1938 – AUGUST 6, 2020

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Charles John Richard “Dick” Burnett, of Courtland announce his passing at his residence on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Loving and thoughtful husband of Eva (Heath) Burnett for 63 years. Great teacher and mentor to his children, Tammy Barker, Dawn ( Mike) Wells and Brian Burnett. Proud grandfather of Jesse Barker (Stephanie), Chad Wells (Amanda), Kelsey (Donald) Evanitski, Meagan (Brandon) Bisson and Baylea Burnett (Lucas Hall). Great grandfather to Makayla Barker, Jase Wells, Tori Wells, Daxton Evanitski, Dylan Evanitski, and Abigail Evenitski. Brother-in-law of Joan Burnett, Helen Burnett, Linda Burnett, Cecil Wilson, Bob and Jean Heath, Betty Matthews, Shirley and Bruce Wilson, Doreen and Bob Sanders. Dick will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Donald and Saphire (nee Chatterson) Burnett, brothers Don Burnett, Roy Burnett, and Jim Burnett, sisters Olive Dryer and her husband Gerald Dryer, Yvonne Wilson, Betty Chapman, and brother-in-law Donald Matthews. Dick was a “Jack-Of-All-Trades”, he could fix anything and he always would for anybody. Dick was the manager of the Courtland United Church Cemetery for over 50 years. He loved baseball and was an Official Umpire for many years. Dick was a proud Green Bay Packers fan, through and through. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending as much time with his family as he could. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home Limited, 43 Bidwell Street Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 1:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, public visitation will be LIMITED to ONLY guests that sign up for a specific time to attend. Time slots will be made available on our website or by calling 519-842-5221. Guests are asked to not attend if they are ill, have been around anyone that is ill or have travelled. Guests are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing rules. Guests are encouraged to only attend when their time slot begins. A Private family service conducted by Rev. Ted Smith, will be held at Ostrander’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. and will be streamed live through the link provided by our website. Memorial donations to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Foundation of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted with Dick’s arrangements.
