Obituary for Dorothy Jean Henry (Palmer)

Dorothy Henry’s (née Palmer) long life journey came to a peaceful end on July 16, 2022 at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
Dorothy will be forever missed by her grand daughter Allegra (Chris) and great grand daughters Sofie and Téa as well as her former son in law Doug. Her only child Shaaron will forever remember her mom as a kind and loving inspiration.
Born in Springford, Ontario to Malcolm and Cecile Palmer in 1923, Dorothy was predeceased by brothers Bob (Pauline) and Ron (Leona) and sister Marilyn (Bill). Dorothy will be remembered by many as a loving friend especially to her sister-in-law Leona Palmer of Florida.
Dorothy was a hardworking, entrepreneurial woman who was ahead of her time. After marrying Braiden Henry, they operated a service station and car dealership on Tillson Ave for many years. Dorothy then started her own successful business as a hairstylist in Tillsonburg. After retiring, Dorothy worked at a local Tillsonburg clothing store where she shared her wonderful sense of style.
Having grown up on a farm, Dorothy loved animals and always enjoyed having a dog or cat to keep her company. She loved sharing memories of riding her pony to school or the funny antics of her pets. Dorothy also loved sports particularly baseball and curling which she both played and in her later years enjoyed watching.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
Thank you to the wonderful caring staff at the Stroke Unit at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital would be appreciated and may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted by Dorothy’s family.
