Dr. Charles Stanley Baldwin

Peacefully passed in his 90th year, resting at home after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a family man, loving husband and father. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Marlene (nee Longworth), son John and daughters, Jane Baldwin Brown and Stephanie Gosnell (Tom). Proud grandfather of Kayd and Ethyn Brown, Andrew (Carlee) and Alannah Gosnell. Dear great grandfather of Nova and Wyatt Gosnell. Dr. Charles was a dedicated agronomist, agroforestor, conservationist, author, and gifted orator, sharing with many during his tenure at Ridgetown Agricultural College both locally and abroad. A lifelong educator, he extended his career well into retirement. Anyone who knew him can attest to his unwavering high standards and principles and dedicated approach to everything he did. He loved travelling with his wife, friends and family. Charles was an outstanding athlete who loved a wide variety of sports; he was an avid player and coach of baseball, basketball, football and hockey. At the age of 69 he learned to water ski. He never missed an opportunity to attend any activity with his grandchildren. His other interests were numerous: he loved the outdoors, fishing and exploring for relaxation. He was an accomplished woodworker and gifted his arts to friends. A proud graduate of OAC 56 who received his Doctorate at Michigan State University. In Guelph he became part of a special class, celebrating with reunions for over 60 years socializing and travelling regularly with these lifetime friends! The family will receive friends and family at Ostrander’s Funeral Home 43 Bidwell St. Tillsonburg (519) 842-5221 on Saturday September 4, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Guests attending the visitation are asked to sign up online at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com or by calling the funeral home for a visitation time slot. All guests must wear a face mask and maintain social distancing. The Funeral Service for Dr. Charles will be private and will be held at St. Paul’s United Church in Tillsonburg on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. and will be live streamed through the link provided by our website. Rev. Maurice Francis of St. Paul’s United Church officiating. Interment will take place in Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Long Point Regional Conservation Authority would be appreciated by the Baldwin family.
