Obituary for Eleanor Marie Story (Huffman)

ELEANOR STORY

Mrs. Eleanor M. (Huffman) Story of Tillsonburg, Ontario, passed away at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on February 20, 2024, in her 94th year.
Born in South Harwich Township, Kent County, in the Blenheim, Ontario area, August 10, 1930, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Harold (Pete) Huffman, and the former Marjorie Lawton (Snow) Huffman.
Eleanor is predeceased by her husband, Alfred (Edwin) Story, of 53 years. She is survived by her four children; Janet and her husband, Richard Guralski and their children, Ryan (Sonya) and Brent (Brianne); Paul and his wife, Susan Vuylsteke, and their children, Kathleen (Conner), and Matthew (Natalie); Karen and her children, Mallory and Michael (Nicole) Swing; and Allan and his wife, Heidi Pettigrew, and their children, Alexander and Claire (Alex). Great grandmother to Summer, Joe, Gemma and Celia.
Eleanor is also survived by a sister-in-law, Madge Story, and several nieces.
She is predeceased by infant brother Verne, sister Marjorie (Snow) (Tom Rance), brother Ross Huffman (Pat), and brother-in-law, Richard (Dick) Story.
Eleanor graduated from Alma College in 1950 before being married. The Storys moved to Tillsonburg from the Blenheim area in 1961, where Eleanor became involved in the community. She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church, and a member of its Official Board, a recipient of the UCW Life Membership pin, and a member of the Senior Choir for 50 years. She was a past member of the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Tillsonburg Curling Club, and the Tillsonburg Ladies Travel Club.
Eleanor‘s love of family, birds and gardening brought joy and enriched her life.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg, ON N4G 3T6 (519) 842-5221. The Funeral Service for Eleanor will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Church, 88 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg. Rev. Karlene Brown-Palmer officiating. A private family interment will take place at Tillsonburg Cemetery following the service. Memorial donations will be made to the St. Paul’s United Church, Tillsonburg or to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation, directly with the Charity or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home.
