Emeric Roger Volckaert

After a long and wonderful life, Emeric Roger Volckaert of Dorchester, formerly of Tillsonburg passed away in London at the age of 98 years. Emeric was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (2012). Emeric is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families all over the world. Emeric was cared for with the utmost love and respect by Mike and Stella, as well as John and Cindy. He grew up in Belgium and was a butcher at a local butcher shop when he was very young, when he got older, Emeric joined the Belgium army. It was in 1952 that Emeric immigrated to Canada from Belgium. He landed in New York and made his way to Ontario, where he settled in Wallaceburg. In Wallaceburg he worked on the Piepline before changing jobs to become a crane operator for General Motors. Emeric worked the rest of his career at GM until his retirement. After retirement, Emeric and Mary moved to Tillsonburg. They loved to travel and split their time between Tillsonburg and in Florida. Emeric had a passion for cooking, it was a true gift he loved to share. He enjoyed showing off his talents at many a Pig Roast. The family of Emeric want to extend a special thank-you to the Doctors and Nursing Staff of the Dorchester Retirement Home and Victoria Hospital, London for your care. The family will receive friends and family at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St. Tillsonburg (519) 842-5221 on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Guests attending the visitation are asked to sign up online at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com or by calling the funeral home for a visitation time slot. All guests must wear a face mask and maintain social distancing. The Funeral Service for Emeric will be private following the visitation. Interment will take place in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be mailed to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, or Children’s Health Foundation, London in memory of Emeric.
