Eugene “Gene” Herman Hirt (1936 – 2020)
Our patriarch who has taught us so many life lessons has fought his last fight. Always a joke, always a story, always a hug……our family’s biggest supporter left us today to rejoin the love of his life. He will be missed by many. At Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, Gene Hirt passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 in his 85th year. Adored husband of the late Carol (Millson) Hirt (2016). Loving father of his three daughters; Mary Beth McElhone (Trevor), Cathy Dejaegher (Brian) and Lisa Hirt (Rob). Cherished grandpa/papa of Justin (Michele), Alyssa (Eric), Jill (Ash), Jenna (Matt), Trisha (Ben), Tara (Braydon), Patric (Jenn), Ryan, Owen and great-granchildren Leona, Vincent, Emily and Clara. Gene is also survived by his brother-in-law Doug Bartlett and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Valentine and Mary Hirt, and siblings Fred Hirt and Katie Bartlett. Gene was President of Tillsonburg Jaycee (1972), Past Master of King Hiram Masonic Lodge (1984), President of the Tillsonburg Shrine Club (1990), District Deputy Grand Master Wilson South District (2002). He was also Co-Owner and President of E.R. Adams Insurance Limited for 25 years. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home Limited, 43 Bidwell Street Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, public visitation will be LIMITED to ONLY guests that sign up for a specific time to attend. Time slots will be made available on our website or by calling 519-842-5221. Guests are asked to not attend if they are ill, have been around anyone that is ill or have travelled. Guests are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing rules. Guests are encouraged to only attend when their time slot begins. A private family graveside service will be held at the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Gene’s memory may be made to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the Hirt family.
