Obituary for Frank James Pettman

FRANK JAMES PETTMAN
January 16, 1933 – March 9, 2022

Frank James Pettman graduated to Heaven, on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. He enjoyed a final day surrounded by his family, recalling many family memories. It brought much joy to him, to be a part of the reminiscing.

Frank was born during a thunderstorm in Courtland, on January 16, 1933. He lived his full life of 89 years, on the family farm his grandfather purchased in 1903, on the 9th Concession. Frank and Joanne (McAllister) met in the tobacco fields of Straffordville. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage, together on the farm.

Frank is survived by his sister Diane (Dave Hurley). He was “Dad” to Douglas (Sharon), Suzanne (Steve Bowker) and Marjorie (Robert Leyland). Proud Grandpa to Shane Pettman (Audrey), Jared Pettman (girlfriend Rachel Nieman), Sean Bowker (Jessica), Seth Pettman (Kayla), Brent Bowker (Ashley), Nicholas Bowker (girlfriend Lainie McBride), Josh Leyland (Rachel), and Matthew Leyland.

Great Grandpa to Caleb and Ella Pettman, Hudson Pettman, Connor and Erin Bowker, Gordon and Andrew Bowker and Nora Leyland.

Frank loved being steward of the homestead and raising livestock. Last year’s cattle were “the best beef ever!” The woods were his office space. He was still out cutting wood up until 6 weeks ago.

Frank loved nothing better, than having his family together. The farm was the location for many Pettman Christmas gatherings, family birthdays and celebrations. Frank always had stories to share, but was interested in what was happening in everyone’s life too.

Predeceased by his infant daughter Joy (1956), parents Jim (1975) and Leota Pettman (1987), twin sisters Jean Holland (2011) and Joan Sharpe (2011), and grandson Nicholas Bowker (2020).
