Obituary for Gail Barbara Gulka (Hackett)

It is with great sadness, the family of Gail Barbara Gulka, age 74, of Tillsonburg, ON, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and friend on Friday, February 25, 2022, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Gail was born on February 18, 1948 to Bill and Jean Hackett in Winnipeg, MB. After completing high school in Winnipeg, Gail attended the University of Manitoba, where she pursued and achieved her life’s ambition of becoming a teacher. She held many teaching jobs throughout her career, but she spoke especially warmly of her time at Parkway Public School, where she worked until her retirement in 2007.
While visiting Detroit Lakes, MI in the summer of 1978, Gail met a handsome fellow named Nestor, who was able to woo her with a “classy” pick-up line. They married in Winnipeg on December 27, 1980 and went on to share a long, happy and fulfilling life together, with their children. In the summer of 1984, they moved to Ontario. Gail made lifelong friends everywhere she went. Her infectious laugh and bubbly energy made her a shining star in all of her social circles. She was an active member in the Hickory Hills Community.
Gail was incredibly passionate about music. She was always singing and she loved karaoke, dancing and attending concerts. Her social calendar was often full and she enjoyed playing games of all kinds. Gail had so much love for all the people in her life and she was loved greatly in return. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Gail is survived by her loving family: her husband of 41 years, Nestor Gulka; her children and step-children Dale (Diana) Maron, Cori (Tim Thiessen) Dyck, Darci (Andrew) Burgess, Tricia (Darin) Mudge, Jen Gulka and Brad (Amy) Gulka; her grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Cameron, Rebecca, Adam, Ryan, Jessica and Jasper; her three great-grandchildren; her brother Jim (Julie) Hackett and sister-in-law Kathy Hackett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Jean Hackett, and her brother Ken Hackett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (CPFF) or the Canadian Cancer Society. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring, date TBD.
