Obituary for George David Lee Jenkins
Jenkins, George David Lee - passed peacefully on Friday, September 11th, 2020 in his 74th year. Son of the late George and Margaret Jenkins of Tillsonburg, and devoted husband to Anne. George and Anne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of this year. Beloved father of Nicole and husband Stefan Marath of Tillsonburg and Ryan and wife Melissa Jenkins of Cambridge. Loving grandfather to Ryan’s children Logan, Bishop, Quinn, Grayson and Belle.
George attended highschool in Tillsonburg as well as Ridley College in St. Catharines. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree in history at the University of Western Ontario, George and Anne moved to Vancouver where George completed his law degree at the University of British Columbia. After graduating he returned to Tillsonburg where he articled under Judge Groom. George completed the bar admission course at Osgoode Hall in Toronto and was called to the bar in 1974. He practiced professionally in his hometown of Tillsonburg.
George will be sadly missed in Tillsonburg by his family, friends, colleagues and clients. Known as a man of fairness and generosity he touched the lives of many. His acts of kindness in reaching out to those in need were done quietly and with selflessness. George was a lifelong member and supporter of the Eden Baptist Church. George was a strong supporter of his community and was active in a variety of community services and clubs. He was a regular at several local coffee shops where he was kept apprised of community affairs and events.
As an entertaining storyteller, openness and humour were signature characteristics. He had a love for golf, travel and great food shared with friends. What George cherished most in life was his love for family and friends. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home Limited, 43 Bidwell Street Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, public visitation will be LIMITED to ONLY guests that sign up for a specific time to attend. Time slots will be made available on our website or by calling 519-842-5221. Guests are asked to not attend if they are ill, have been around anyone that is ill or have travelled. Guests are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing rules. Guests are encouraged to only attend when their time slot begins. A Private Family Memorial Service for George will be held. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the Jenkins family.
