Obituary for George Ward

George W.J. Ward
March 10,1946 – October 22, 2022

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of George at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer for almost 2 years. Dearly loved husband and best friend of 54 years to Diane (Hall). George was born and raised in Toronto. He is survived by his sisters Shirley Kerr (Steve), Isabelle Kelly (Eldon), Marie McLean (Don), his brother Robert Ward (Karen), and his brother-in-law Ron Hall. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He will be missed by many friends, both old and new.
George was a proud retired member of the Toronto Police Service. He retired in 1996 as a Detective after 30 years of service. He worked in several divisions ending his career at 31 Division. As a uniform sergeant or a detective, he was a mentor to many.
George was often heard saying, "I picked our first 3 homes, so I let Diane choose the last one.” She did and their move to Baldwin Place in Tillsonburg was a great choice!
Many thanks to everyone who cared for George during COVID days... Dr. Jasdeep Sohal (Tillsonburg Medical Centre), Dr. Cheng Yao (Tillsonburg Hospital), Dr. Richard Inculet (LHSC - Victoria Hospital), Dr. Melody Qu (Radiation Oncologist- LRCP - Victoria Hospital), Dr. Phillip Blanchette (Medical Oncologist -LRCP - Victoria Hospital), Dr. Inderdeep Dhaliwal (Respirology - LHSC - Victoria Hospital) and the very special people who worked alongside these doctors, the Woodstock Chemo & IV Infusion Team, the Oxford Palliative Care Outreach Team, and the Care Partners Team (Tillsonburg).
Last, but not least, heartfelt thanks to everyone at VON Sakura House Residential Hospice in Woodstock for the incredible care, attention, and support that George (and Diane) received in the last 6 months! If so desired, memorial donations to this amazing hospice would be much appreciated by George's family. Donations may be made directly or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home Limited, as they have been entrusted with arrangements.
As per George's expressed wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
