Peacefully, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, on Friday, December 1, 2023, Helen (Nezezon) Szvirida passed away at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of the Late Steve Szvirida (1995). Proud and loving mother of the Late Robert Svirida, William Svirida of London, Steve Svirida (Victoria) of Vienna and daughter-in-law Brenda Yarush of Whitby. Dear grandmother of Kai, Brit, Julie, Mary, Jack, Vincent and Kevin. Helen is also survived by her brother Joe Nezezon, sister-in-law Ola Nezezon, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her sister Mary Sofalvi (John), brothers Andrew Nezezon, Steve Nezezon and John Nezezon (Kathy) and sisters–in-law Margaret and Grace Nezezon. Helen and her husband Steve grew tobacco in the Vienna area for many years. She enjoyed cake decorating, needle point and gardening.
Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tillsonburg on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11:00 am with Father Seejo John officiating. Interment will follow at St. Ladislaus Cemetery in Courtland. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Brain Injury Canada would be appreciated by Helen’s family.
