Obituary for Helga Barth

With great sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Omi and friend at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital in her 82nd year.

On November 24, 1939, Helga was born in Germany to the late Karl and Wilhelmine Tonk. Predeceased by her husband of 50 years Werner in 2020, her beloved brother Günter in 2019, dear sister Waltraud in 2017 and brothers Heinz and Waldemar, who were killed during WWII.

She was the loving mother of daughter Bettina Rowe, son Christopher Barth (Rachel) and proud Omi to grandson Brandan Rowe. She leaves behind her sister Erika, sister-in-law Alice and many nieces, nephews and family in Germany.

Helga immigrated to Canada in 1969 and spent 45 years as a resident of Kitchener, Ontario, before her move to Tillsonburg in 2020. A certified dental assistant, Helga worked with dentists Dr. Ralph Watts and Dr. Peter Sesto in Cambridge at the George Street dental clinic until her retirement.

When Helga wasn’t travelling the world, she was happiest at home, curled up with a good book, having a great laugh over a glass of wine or spending time with loved ones. To know Helga was to know her strength, compassion, and love of all animals.

Cremation has taken place, and at Helga’s request, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local Humane Society/Animal Shelter are appreciated by the family and may be done by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home (519) 842-5221 who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital for their excellent care, kindness and support during this difficult time.
