Jack was born in 1926 at his family farm outside the town of Brownsville, on which he grew up. He was a very talented mechanic, builder and innovator; Jack could build anything from a piece of junk. For example, the snow plow he built from an old Volkswagen engine which he then used to plow all his neighbors' driveways. Jack built several homes himself, nail by nail, the first being his family home in Milton in 1954, for which he collected scrap wood for the entire frame. He worked as an aircraft mechanic on CF100 fighter jets at Avro Canada as well as working on the Arrow Fighter Program, and then later moved to Kitchener and took on a gas delivery business, where he served all the farms in the area. His final move was back to his hometown, Tillsonburg, with his new wife, Mae.

Jack was also an avid fisherman, animal lover, Blue Jays fanatic, and enjoyed having beers with his buddies.
