Obituary for Judith "Judi" Lucy Tamcsu (Barrett)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our cherished wife, mother and grandma Judi after a short illness on August 14, 2022. Judi passed peacefully surrounded by family at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) in London, Ontario.

Judi was born on April 17, 1942 in Tillsonburg, Ontario. She and her husband John were proud farmers in Courtland until their retirement in 2000. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 58 years John Tamcsu. She is survived by her son Brad, daughter-in-law Lisa (Gill), daughter Jules (Tamcsu) Bartley, son-in-law Andrew and her grandchildren Megan Gill, Jordan and Jacob Tamcsu, Julian and Nora Bartley. She is also survived by her siblings Ric (Lory) Barrett and Victoria (Mike) Etter, sisters-in-law Jeanet Barrett, Judy Barrett, Irene Horvath, and Mary Tamcsu. Judi is predeceased by her beloved daughter Shari, parents Harry Barrett Sr., Irene and Mike Verhaeghe, and her in-laws Andy and Rozalia Tamcsu. Also welcoming her in heaven are her dear brothers Harry Barrett Jr., Robert Barrett, sister-in-law Elizabeth Nemeth, brothers-in-law Joseph Nemeth, Andrew Tamcsu Jr., and Leslie Horvath, nephew David Nemeth, and nieces Marianne and Susanne Tamcsu. Judi will be greatly missed by her many nephews, nieces, their children and her friends.

On one of her final nights, dad sat stoically by mom’s side and said: “I have a theory, we are all just souls. We are given a body to live in, and we choose what we do in that body. Look at what she did in this body. She created three beautiful children. She did wonderful work with those hands. But this body is just temporary. Her work is done now. Her soul is moving on.”

She truly did wonderful work with those hands. Everything she created and touched was magnificent. Her garden, her cooking, her home, her family and her exquisite sense of style. Every space she existed in blossomed under her care. How grateful we are that we had the honour to love her, and be loved by her.

She endured many losses over her life, including her beautiful daughter Shari, and she did so with grace and understanding. She handled her final weeks and days in the very same way. With calm, peace and love. We love you, always and forever.

Thank you to our family, friends and neighbours for their love and support over the past weeks. We extend our deepest gratitude for the guidance, care and compassion of Dr. Howard Lamb, Dr. Ken Leslie, his assistant Shelley Coad and their team, Oxford County Paramedic Services, staff at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, and the Palliative Care Team at LHSC in London.

In keeping with Judi’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the St. Ladislaus Cemetery, Courtland. Dear friend Chaplain Tina Dias will be officiating. In recognition of her love for animals, donations in memory of Judi may be made to Purrfect Companions Animal Rescue in Delhi or to any charity of your choice through Ostrander’s Funeral Home.
