JANUARY 12, 1930 – APRIL 10, 2020
On Friday, April 10, after a long and hard-fought battle, Lila Viola (Nevill) Roesch passed into God’s care. As always, she passed on her own terms, with dignity and courage.Viola was predeceased by her loving husband and partner of sixty-two years Murray Roesch in 2010; her parents Cecil and Lily (Locker) Nevill; and her father and mother in law Clarence and Leona (Burd) Roesch. Viola is survived by her sons Robert (Christena); William (Darlene); grandchildren Gordon (Sara) Roesch; Heather (John) Williams; Robin Roesch and her much loved great grandchildren Jorden and Lauren Roesch; Kyler and Ruby Williams and Matthew Santoro. She is also survived by a special friend Debra Roesch, sisters in law Betty Matthews, Hazel Davey and Pat Roesch and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers: Floyd, Elgin (Ethel), Albert (Lois), and C.J. Nevill. Sisters: Fern (Newton) Palmer, Elsie (Murray) Greer, Erie (Jack) MacDonald, Ruth (Gerald) Reid; and Ella Mae (Ralph Honsinger/Serge Melchior). Brothers in law: Lee Matthews, Norm Davey and Ken Roesch; and sister in law Kay (Bill Herron/John McLeod) and by a close nephew Bill Palmer. Viola was born in Straffordville and moved to Port Burwell as a young girl where she met and married Murray. They made lifelong friends and raised two mischievous sons there. After working hard in the tobacco, coal, billiards and grocery store businesses, driving school bus and mail routes in the Port Burwell and Vienna area, Vi and Murray retired to 31 Maple Lane and joined the retirement community in Tillsonburg where they never stopped. They made many new friends in the Avondale Church and retirement communities and were busy with shuffleboard, darts, bingo, the Leisure Club as well as the Seniors’ Centre. After Murray passed Vi kept busy with the same activities and she was always ready for a chicken supper or an adventure with the travelling ladies. Because of the Covid 19 regulations, a private family service will take place. Donations in Viola’s memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation or Avondale United Church and may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted with the arrangements. Personal condolences, and fond memories may be made at Our family would like to send our gratitude to:
Dr. Holowchuk for your care and compassion for Mom over the years.
All of Vi’s friends who called in on her while she was still at home bringing her treats and checking on her.
The nurses and caregivers who visited her at home and helped her stay there as long as possible.
Friends and family who visited and brightened her days in the hospital.
Doris VandenEeckhout who brightened Mom’s and our days with her visits and calls.
The staff on second floor north and south and first south for taking such good care of Mom especially when we could not be there.
Dr. Forester who took such wonderful care of Mom while she was in the hospital. We appreciate your kindness and compassion to our “medical marvel.”
Our own families and friends who were our support system during Mom’s illness.

Bob and Bill, condolences to you and your families. I will miss your mother very much. In recent years, I have been able to visit with her on my spring and fall passes through the area, and enjoyed those visits immensely. Wish I could be there to say goodbye. I am in Florida, expecting to be back in Collingwood Thursday to begin my two week quarantine. Be well, and best wishes to all of you.
