Obituary for Margaret Joan Harris

JOAN HARRIS

Joan Harris passed away at Harvest Crossing October 7, 2022. She was predeceased by brother William Brooks 1945 and her husband Max in 2004. They were married for 58 years.
She leaves son Robin and daughter-in-law Sharen. Grandchildren Leigh (Adam) of Winnipeg, Neil of Thunder Bay, David (Samantha) of Thunder Bay and Erika of Airdrie. Great Grandchildren Meredith, Joceyln, Andrew, Ella, and Cooper. Also, favourite nephew Iain (Robyn) of Australia.
Joan was born in Gloucester, England (Cotswold country). She served in WWII at an airbase packing parachutes where she met Max who was RAF (Lancasters). When he returned from being a POW, they married in 1946.
The family came to Canada in 1958 (on the Queen Elizabeth). Joan had a thirty-year career working for Hudson’s Bay.
They moved from Mississauga in 1989 to find a new home in Tillsonburg. Joan enjoyed camping in Algonquin Park and became involved in Max’s endeavours such as Marshalling at Mosport Racetrack. Joan actually worked the first Canadian Grand Prix in 1967.
Later Max started flying again and they spent most weekends at SOSA Gliding Club near Cambridge where she made lifelong friends.
Church was a huge part of her life. She was always involved including hospital visits.
We would like to thank Dr. Cheng and the caring staff at Harvest Crossing for looking out for Joan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations to St. John’s Anglican Church would be appreciated and can be done by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home (519) 842-5221. Personal condolences can be made at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com.
