Obituary for Marion Elizabeth Partlo

MARION ELIZABETH PARTLO
1937 - 2022
It is with heavy hearts the family wishes to announce the passing of their beloved Mother, Grandma and GG, Marion Elizabeth Partlo (Hughes), on Friday, February 25, 2022 at St Thomas Elgin General Hospital in her 85th year.
Marion was the beloved wife for 62 years of her best friend the late Arthur Partlo (2020). She is survived, and sadly missed, by her daughter Heather (Greg) Hayward, and son Max (Karen) Partlo. Lovingly adored Grandma to grandchildren Jessica (Adam) Swance, Kerilyn (Jordan) Bruckler, Taylor (Shawn Stubbs) Partlo and step grandsons Jared and Sean Miller. Cherished GG to her great grandchildren Bradley and Adelaide Swance as well as Kashious and Cohen Bruckler. Marion is also survived by her sister in law Barb (Partlo) Gall, her brother in law Dave (Sharon) Partlo and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Roy and Marie (Miller) Hughes, brother and sister in law Don and Irene Hughes, sister and brother in law Ruth and Len Bourgeois, niece Sharon Bourgeois, nephews Pete Bourgeois and Richard Hughes.
Marion was the fiercely proud matriarch of her family and always grateful for her blessings. Marion lived her entire life in Tillsonburg, Ontario. She was very active in following figure skating (up to Canadian Championships), playing ball (Sockettes), her golf and cards group as well as her greatest love of swimming (aquafit) which she did numerous times per week including the day before her stroke. Marion worked for A&P/Metro for 47 years. She loved the fact her job put her in front of so many of the town’s people. She was very much a lady of the people and for the people.
Aside from her family, her sports and her work, Marion loved her time with friends. The sports environments for both Art and Marion generated many of their closest friends. These great, lifelong friendships formed her greatest memories. Marion also loved her “happy hours” with renewed friends.
In the end, it was her stroke and the complications that followed which took her life in two weeks from the occurrence. Her time at University Hospital in London and then St Thomas Elgin General was made even more difficult given COVID protocols however her children and grandchildren spent every available minute with Marion talking, singing and playing her music.
The family would like to pay special recognition to Dr Roth and Tillsonburg Medical Centre Staff, University Hospital (Stroke Unit), St Thomas Elgin General (Stroke Unit and Palliative Care), to all the Health Care Workers and to Reverend Karlene for her genuine and earth moving, spiritual blessing she gave to Marion.
THANK YOU!
The family will be providing a formal service (St Paul’s Church) followed by a Celebration of Life (Tillsonburg Community Center – Lions Auditorium) in honour of both Art and Marion Partlo on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Tillsonburg Cemetery and St Paul’s United Church would be appreciated by the Partlo family and may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted with Marion’s arrangements. Friends and relatives are invited to send tributes in memory of Marion o www.ostranderfuneralhome.com.
