Mark Stephen Smith
April 25, 1953 - August 17, 2022
Peacefully passed away at home on August 17, 2022, at the age of 69, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late Ken and Sheila Smith and devoted husband of 46 years to Karen Smith (nee McCann). Mark was a loving father to Laura (Mike Tracy) Gee and Stephen Smith, and a proud Papa to Kendall and Camden Gee, who were his greatest joy. Dear brother to Janis (Bruce) Ford, Joanne (Duff) MacKinnon and Patrick (Michaela) Smith. He will be missed by so many dear friends and family members. He loved his family with all his heart.
Born and raised in London, Mark worked as a property assessor at MPAC in Mississauga for 30 years, where he made many enduring friendships. He retired in 2013 and spent the last 9 years living in Tillsonburg.
His passions were many, and he lived life to the fullest. Mark loved all sports, especially football and hockey. He never missed NFL football on TV and attended OHL hockey games for many years, most recently as a fan for the London Knights.
Summers were spent at the trailer at Inner Bay on Lake Erie, playing golf, and riding his motorcycle. He loved sitting around the campfire, listening to music, and boating out on the lake with friends. Winter was for travel, with the guys and with his wife, Karen. He loved his many trips to Las Vegas and Bike Week in Daytona with the guys. He also had wonderful memories of golf trips to Georgia and attending the Masters. Travel with Karen involved mostly cruises, and they visited dozens of countries together since retiring. The last trip they took was an incredible cruise to Australia and New Zealand with special friends.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life in September, with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you please buy a beer for the person next to you and raise a glass in Mark’s memory.
