Obituary for Mary Evelyn Hetherington (Gaskin)

MARY EVELYN HETHERINGTON (nee Gaskin)
June 29th, 1929-July 5th, 2020
Mary passed away peacefully in her 92nd year on July 5th, 2020 at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Loving wife and best friend to Jay Hetherington. Proud mother to Jerry (Darlene) Hetherington, Wanda VanRybroeck (Jim), Frank Hetherington, and Rose Couse, predeceased by son-in –law Alan Couse. Much loved grandmother to Lori, Jacquie (Steve), Jeff (Katie), Nadine, Chris, David (Lauren) and Gerad (Cassy). Cherished great-grandmother to Cassy, Zach (Keyanna), Lily, Jamie, Jack, Braxton, Brodie, Bree and Jacob, and extremely proud great grandmother to the newest member of her family Mila Evelyn Rose. Mary was born in Courtland to Fred and Lillian (nee Lovell) Gaskin. She was predeceased by sisters, Freda (Roy) Graves, Grace (Carl) Grant and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee (Donna) Hetherington, June (Jim) Lowe, Verna (Don) Graydon, Jean (Jerry) Waechter, and Floyd Roberts. She is survived by sisters Daisy Roberts and Dorothy (Larry) Schroeder. Mary was a loving aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews, and over the years, she loved and mentored many friends , who became part of her extended family. Mary worked hard over the years, initially on the tobacco farm, where she and Jay started their family, and later after moving to Tillsonburg, she worked for Meharg Laundry, then later for Tip Top Cleaners. After retiring she had more time for her favourite hobbies, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and baking birthday cakes for the many family parties she hosted. Visiting with her immediate and extended family brought her the most joy. Due to the on-going Covid Crisis, there will be a private family graveside service with Rev. Lynne Allin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to any of the following: The Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, The Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice and may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home. Friends and relatives are invited to show their support by sending special heartfelt tributes, and hugs from home in memory of Mary to www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com.
