Peacefully, at Caressant Care Nursing Home in Courtland on Friday, July 14, 2023, Mary (Szanto) Kovacs passed away in her 102nd year. Beloved wife of the Late James Kovacs (1978). Dear mother-in-law of Madeline Kovacs of Tillsonburg. Cherished grandmother of Louie (Linda), Robert (Bonnie), Jamie (Angela), Jody Kovacs-Lahn (Pearce) and great-grandchildren Kristin (Kris), Kevin, Nicholas, Caitlin, Emily, Claire, Amber, Harlen, Cassie and Avery. Mary is also survived by her sister Annie Sebestyen of London and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her two sons Louis Kovacs (2020), Jim Kovacs (2013), grandson Christopher Kovacs and her parents Louis (1977) and Karolina (Zsiros) Szanto (1981). Mary was a longtime member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Delhi as well as St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Tillsonburg. She loved to bake and cook especially traditional Hungarian dishes. She cooked and baked for many events such as the Norfolk Fair and family weddings. Her specialty was a walnut torte. Mary was also an avid gardener. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Tuesday July 18, 2023 for a visitation from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. The Funeral Service for Mary will be held privately with Pastor Paul Penelton officiating. Private interment will follow at the Tillsonburg Cemetery.
