Peacefully, at Nithview Nursing Home in New Hamburg on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, Merritt Garfield Burwell, formerly of Tillsonburg, passed away at the age of 94 years. Beloved husband and best friend of the Late Barbara (Genders) Burwell (2015) for 63 years. Proud and loving father of Peter (Cathy) of Staffa, Michael (Judy) of Monkton, Emily Kraft (John) of Burlington, Paul Newton and John Newton both of Kitchener. Cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren as well as many great-grandchildren. Merritt is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Alberta (Davis) Burwell, daughters Ruth Pawley and Phyllis Jutzi, grandson Michael Pawley, brothers Bill, Bruce, Walter, Charlie, Hercules, Fred, Blake, Archie and sisters Mabel and Hazel. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. The Funeral Service for Merritt will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Jim Rowbottom officiating. Interment will take place at Springford Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the Burwell family.
