Obituary for Sylvia Vera Elizabeth Molnar

Sylvia Vera Elizabeth Molnar (nee Livingston)
October 31st 1930 – November 15th 2021

Sylvia Molnar, long-time resident of Tillsonburg, Ontario and more recently Waterloo Ontario, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday November 15th, 2021. Sylvia was born in Woodstock, Ontario to Vera and Bruce Livingston and was the “middle” child in the family. Marrying George Molnar in 1955, Sylvia and George moved to Tillsonburg to raise their family and it is where she resided until moving to Waterloo in 2015. Sylvia’s family was her passion and top priority. Growing up, Mom was always present and warmly opened our home to family and friends. To have someone arrive at the door and be welcomed in for an impromptu dinner was not uncommon. Memories of family vacations at the beach or on the ski hill bring smiles. This commitment to family carried through to her grandchildren of whom she was most proud. Nana was always present for their activities and milestones. Sylvia was an active member of the Tillsonburg community. A member of St John’s Anglican Church, she served on the Chancel Guild. Sylvia was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, the Tillsonburg Ladies Travel Club and a Past President of the Tillsonburg Kinette Club, and the Ladies sections of the Tillsonburg Golf Club, and Tillsonburg Curling Club. While supporting the community she loved she also actively participated in various advisory Committees. Sylvia was an avid bridge player, a lover of travel and all things culinary. Sylvia will be greatly missed and is survived by her three children, Kim (Steve) of Waterloo, Stephen (Colleen) of Tillsonburg, Paul (Kristen) of St Catharines and her special niece Stephanie Kendall of Cambridge. Very special Nana to her six grandchildren Matthew Knapp (Jennica) of London, Sarah Knapp (Cam Woods) of Calgary, Meghan Knapp of Waterloo and Jake Rogers, Ben Molnar and Sophie Molnar all of St Catharine’s. Grand Nan to Spencer and Sawyer Knapp and Landon Woods. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband George Molnar (1984), her parents Vera and Bruce Livingston and her four siblings David, Carol, Sam and Victor. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and special friends and neighbours who remain so much a part of her legacy. A special thank you to Parkwood Senior’s Community Waterloo and in particular to the staff of Weber Woods for the compassionate care and support mom and the family have received over the past 3 years. A special thank you also to her exceptional suite mate Mia for all her love and support. Mom, while we will miss your presence we are comforted that you are at peace and are rejoicing in the heavens with Dad, your family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Additional details to become available in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Society of Oxford or St. John’s Anglican Church by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221), who have been entrusted with Sylvia’s arrangements.
