Obituary for Talitha Anne Hostetter

TALITHA ANNE HOSTETTER
1942 - 2021

Peacefully on Monday, November 1, 2021, Talitha Anne Hostetter passed away at the age of 78 years. Talitha was born November 30, 1942 to Jacob and Rachel Hostetter near Niagara on the Lake. She applied for a job as a glass blower for the University of Toronto. She had no experience and was taken on with 3 or 4 others who were required to learn and prove themselves to see which of them would be hired. Talitha got the job as assistant to the scientific glass blower and was the only female in the field. She taught herself to be a glass blower for the laboratory in University. Talitha developed a reputation for her skill and when the University of Guelph decided to install their own glass shop, Talitha was hired. She designed and built the shop purchasing the specialized glass equipment that was used in research projects at the University. She was the first woman to be appointed as director for the Canadian division of the American Glassblowers Association. She travelled to Malaysia to teach glass blowing there. Talitha was involved in a number of organizations such as Norfolk Field Naturalists, Tillsonburg Artist Guild, Tillsonburg Travel Club, Tillsonburg Horticultural Society and other artistic organizations such as the Portrait Federation. She attended Knox United Church in Embro and sang in the choir. Talitha was an accomplished pianist and an artist. She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings, George, Mildred, Ethel, Margaret and Rosemary. Cremation has taken place.
