Obituary for Catherina "Tena" Kamps (Baalman)
Catherina “Tena” Kamps 1926-2017
Catherina Baalman was born on September 16, 1926 in Oude Pekula, Holland. She passed away on January 23, 2017 at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Catherina "Tena" married Douwe "Douglas" Kamps of Groningen, Holland on May 21, 1951. Doug and Tena raised their three daughters in Aylmer Ontario until 1966 at such time they moved to Tillsonburg Ontario. The next few years saw both Doug and Tena working their Dutch trades. Doug as a Butcher and Tena a budding entrepreneur in her own hair dressing salon. During those years they travelled abroad on countless trips around the world. Tena's favourite trip was always returning back to her home country in The Netherlands. After Doug's death in 2002, Tena moved to Collingwood, Ontario and eventually back to Tillsonburg until her passing. Tena's many talents included curling, crocheting, hairdressing, cribbage, dancing, and her love of music. She had a quick wit and contagious laugh. Tena is survived by her daughters; Linda Kamps ( Bruce Hawkins) of Tillsonburg, Frances (Joe) McKeon of Newmarket and Leslie Whitton (Kent Carswell) of Midland. Tena has five grandchildren; Linda's children Lance and Ashley Haines. Frances's sons Brent and Derek Mckeon. Leslie's daughter Madison Whitton. Tena was also blessed with five great grandchildren. Tena was predeceased by her husband Doug in 2002, her brother Rieko Baalman, and sister Gre Dykmeyer. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home 43 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) who are entrusted with Tena’s arrangements. Private Family Inurnment at Tillsonburg Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Carriage Hall, 25 Brock Street West, Tillsonburg, Ontario.
