The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Robert Matthews can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

What do you say about a man as unique as Bob?...and in very few words?  I can only briefly say what he meant to and how he affected myself.

I've always had the greatest respect for the way he studied and philosophied everything he did...such as his hobbies and interests(horse racing, golf, hunting and shooting).

And the way he captivated me with the stories we shared about younger days and drag racing his Oldsmobile.  Probably our most recent, he mentioned to me how, some time ago, he chatted with another gentlemen in the staging lanes of a Detroit area drag strip.  Bob could recall the man's name, even while only conversing for awhile.  The man' name was Jim Wangers.  I found it interesting as I don't believe Bob knew how legendary this man would become.  This man is now affectionately known as "The Godfather of the GTO" and immortal by any automotive purist.  But Bob would just nonchalantly recall this man's name from his great memory.

Another trait that I've always admired of Bob was his ability to be a great father, in which his children would always respect and look up to him.  I truly and honestly use him as my gauge of success of being a father myself.

  I will miss him.
