How I met Mert Mcclintock

it was back in 1997 a summer in july when I was selling vegetables in springford at my cousins place. when a man came over to my stand. his first words was good morning young lady. I was just out for a bike ride and thought I woud stop to see how your sales were going and to see how much you were selling your sweet corn for. I said well the sales are great. and the corn is five dollars a dozen. he replied five dollars a dozen thats alot of money for sweet corn. I thought it would be two or 3 dollars but five dollars. he replied I will pass I wouldn't pay five dollars for a dozen corn. he replied me and my wife are going to town to do groceries and were going to get some of that 1.99 corn at Zerhs for their lunch.he replied have a good day. it was about 2 hours later that he had came back to tell me his wife and him had had some corn for their lunch and he shouldn't have paid a dollar for it..he said sure wasn't sweet had no flavour what so ever. I said well the corn that I am selling is picked fresh every day. it's not old you get what you pay for or it's free. he laughed then he replied I will take a half dozen. and if it isn't good I will be back to tell ya. I said well you will be back cause it's all good or I wouldn't sell it to you. it was later that day just after supper that he had came back to my stand he said well young lady you are a girl of your word that was the best darn corn I have ever ate. I will take a dozen cobs and replied well I didn't get your name yet corn lady. I replied my name is Heather and yours. Mert Mcclintock.from that day on Mert and his wife Dorthy would stop by to get their veggies and have a chat.Mert would get the corn scraps for his ponnies which he called them his girls.
