Obituary for Glenna Marie Smith

Glenna Marie Smith
Glenna lived a long and active life and died peacefully with her family by her side in the Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 10th, 2012, at the age of 94. Glenna loved spending time with her family and gathering them for holidays and special occasions. She was predeceased by her husband Doug (1968) and her son Havens (2007). She will be sadly missed by her family including her daughter-in-law Betty (Havens) Smith of Tillsonburg and their daughters Kara and Kristen; Lee (Sue) Smith of Dunnville and their children Jason (Casey) and Tonia (Junichi); Dale (Glenda) Smith of Wasaga Beach and their children Ryan (Sarah), Justin and Kyle (Ashleen); and Ginny Smith of Stratford. She took great joy in spending time with her great grandchildren Isis, Deckard and Asher. Sister of Doris Jackson of Meaford, Glenna was also a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her family is very fortunate to have many wonderful memories of Mother, Nana and Great Nana Smith. A longstanding member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and a member of the Ladies' Aid, Glenna enjoyed serving her church and her community. She supported a number of charitable organizations with her time, talents and treasure. Glenna loved the outdoors and enjoyed nature's beauty. She was very active throughout her life and spent time skating on the lake, cross-country skiing, swimming, curling, gardening and caring for the birds at her feeder. She also had many creative talents including china painting and flower arranging. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining her family during special occasions and friends during a game of bridge. The Smith family would like to give special thanks to all of the staff from Alcom whose care allowed Glenna to stay in her own home until she was 94 and to the staff at Maple Manor who made her feel at home in their care for the past few months. The Smiths invite friends and family to celebrate Glenna's life at Ostrander's Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St. Tillsonburg (519) 842-5221 on Monday, December 17 with visitation from 11:00am-1:00pm with a memorial service to follow at 1:00pm in Ostrander's Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has kindly asked that donations (payable by cheque) be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice. Knowing that Glenna has friends and family across the country, everyone is invited to share their thoughts and memories on-line at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com.
